Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea. The infection can be spread through the mouth, vagina, penis, or anus. The bacteria grows in warm and moist areas of the body, including the tubes that carry urine out of the body(urethra). In women, bacteria may also be found in the fallopian tubes, uterus, and cervix. This bacteria can even grow in the eyes.

Symptoms in men usually appear 2-5 days after infection. Some individuals may not experience symptoms at all. You can lower your risk of catching an STD by using a condom every time you have sex.
